Start with the facts
Credit repair should begin by reviewing what a credit report says and whether the information appears accurate, complete and connected to the right person.
Negative information is not automatically an error. The CFPB says accurate negative information generally cannot be removed simply because it is unfavorable.
A supported dispute has a reason
A concern may involve information that is inaccurate, incomplete, duplicated, outdated or connected to identity theft. The reason and supporting records matter.
- Name the exact item and report involved.
- Explain what appears wrong.
- Keep copies of supporting documents and correspondence.
- Track dates and responses.
Avoid outcome promises
No honest review can promise a deletion, a score increase, loan approval or a fixed result date before the facts are known.
