How to compare business-funding options

Start with use, cost, cash flow and written terms—not the size of the headline.

Name the business need

A good funding comparison begins with the amount, use of funds and the cash-flow event the capital is meant to solve. A revolving line, term loan, card and revenue-based advance are built for different situations.

Compare the complete obligation

Look beyond the advertised payment or factor. Record the estimated total repayment, interest or factor rate, origination and other fees, payment frequency, collateral, guarantee requirements and renewal terms.

  • Amount actually received
  • Total estimated repayment
  • Daily, weekly or monthly payment
  • Prepayment and renewal terms
  • Personal guarantee or collateral

Approval belongs to the provider

A broker, advisor or marketplace can help organize a request, but the provider makes its own eligibility, underwriting, pricing and approval decisions.
